John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum is the Holy Grail of action film lovers.
John Wick landed in our lives as one of those ninja ghosts portrayed in Parabellum: stealthily, skillfully. We did not expect such a memorable encounter and yet this retired assassin, hidden in the dark, stormed the theatres and conquered the hearts of the cinephiles.
This third chapter is equal to the previous opus. Once again, director Chad Stahelski performs a masterpiece by delivering visually exceptional fighting scenes. We should also applaud the work of Director of Photography Dan Laustsen who contributes to the exemplary quality of the visual. John Wick 2 amazed us with all the lights and reflective surfaces that made the proposal look surreal.Stahelski and Laustsen put this back in the third version with equally fabulous sets (a violent altercation in a glass room being the highlight this time) and original choreography, perfectly orchestrated and filmed.
We cannot hide from you – and this is a comment that applies to all three films – that we would prefer slightly shorter fights. On the other hand, it is in these 4 or 5 minutes of punches and bullets too much that John Wick finds this badass side that makes this franchise his singularity. At the moment when the hero would stop, exhausted and partially defeated, in the other action films, John Wick gets up and fights for longer minutes, which makes him phenomenal and unique.
The same scenario occurs at the scenario level. We’d like to have a thicker plot, but this narrative sobriety makes John Wick a separate work. There are very few twists and turns and the situations are, all in all, quite predictable, but the film still manages to keep us in suspense for 2 hours and 10 minutes, a feat that we would have thought impossible before John Wick.
Keanu Reeves amazes again in the lead role.Knowing that he does his own stunts, we can only be doubly admiring. Halle Berry is also pretty convincing as a fearless killer. With her two Malinois dogs by her side, she delivers us scenes of carabinées that we have rarely seen in the cinema.
John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum is the Holy Grail of action film lovers. Intense, even excessive, this new proposal demonstrates once again the full scope of the concept and convinces us that a fourth version would even be relevant.
